Neutral Buoyancy
VideoRay modular tethers
VideoRay tether is undoubtedly one of the most important and hardest working pieces of the ROV system. Only the highest quality, most rugged materials and underwater connectors available go into our tethers to ensure their durability. All VideoRay tether is mateable and compatible which supports our modular approach to delivery. Most systems come with multiple segments of tether, enabling you to reach your desired depth and providing redundancy for your operations. Limiting your ROV to one long continuous length of tether can put your mission in jeopardy - sharp rocks, vessel propellers, and metal structures love to chew up and sever tether. Having multiple segments on hand ensures that your mission can continue even if part of your tether becomes damaged or destroyed. As an additional layer of protection, the VideoRay Pro 4 Cockpit Software includes a turn counter widget to help you monitor your tether's position and ensure that it does not tangle or knot itself.
VideoRay has a variety of tether diameters, buoyancies, and lengths available. Smaller diameter tether means less drag in the water and less effort needed by the operator to hold the sub in place, no matter the size or power of your ROV. Different buoyancies help in different situations. For shallow dives, any of the neutrally buoyant tethers will suffice while a combination of negative and neutral is usually employed for deep dives down to 305 m (1,000 ft).
